48 Hours in Tbilisi: How We Eloped on a Monday and Were Home by Wednesday
May 5, 2026
When I say we got married in Georgia, most people think peaches and Atlanta. I have to correct them: "No, Georgia the country. Between Turkey and Russia. The place with the wine, the mountains, and the most efficient marriage laws on the planet."
Last May (5th to be exact. Happy Anniversary John!), we decided to skip the big production and elope. We wanted something vibrant, affordable, and, most importantly, completely turnkey. We didn’t want a "wedding month"; we wanted a wedding 48-hour-sprint.
Here is how we pulled off the ultimate "Loud & Lux" elopement in Tbilisi.
The Logistics: The 3-Day Sprint
We didn't want to linger; we wanted to strike. Here was our "I Do" itinerary:
- Monday: Flew British Airways from London (LHR) to Tbilisi (TBS). Landed, dropped our bags, and headed straight to the registry. By the time the sun went down, we were legally married.
- Tuesday: While we explored the city, our documents were being translated and legalized.
- Wednesday: Picked up the final papers and flew back to London.
Three days. One marriage license. Zero stress.
The Status Flex: Points, Points, Points!
If you’ve been following the blog, you know I don’t pay for luxury if I can hack it with points. For our stay, we checked into the Hilton.
Because of my Hilton Gold Status, the "Lux" factor went through the roof at zero extra cost. Not only did they upgrade us to a massive Honeymoon Suite, but they also had a bottle of chilled champagne and a wedding cake waiting for us in the room. This is why we play the loyalty game—it’s the difference between a standard hotel stay and feeling like royalty on your wedding night.
The Secret Weapon: Shu Weddings
If you’re doing this as a foreigner, you need a fixer. We used Shu Weddings, and they made the entire process feel like a VIP concierge service.
The Best Part: Their service is truly door-to-door. Shu includes private transportation to and from your hotel to the courthouse/registry. No haggling with taxis or getting lost in translation on your wedding morning. You just step into the car, get married, and get whisked back to your suite.
The Vibe: Tbilisi is a Mood
Tbilisi isn't just a city; it’s an atmosphere. It’s a mix of ancient stone churches, brutalist Soviet architecture, and ultra-modern glass bridges. It’s gritty, but in a way that feels incredibly cool and artistic.
- The Culture: Georgians are famous for their hospitality (and their wine). We spent our "honeymoon Tuesday" wandering the leaning Clock Tower and the narrow alleys of the Old Town.
- The Food: You haven't lived until you’ve had a wedding lunch of Khachapuri (cheesy bread) and Khinkali (dumplings).
- The Aesthetics: Every corner of the city is a photo op. The contrast of the crumbling balconies against the vibrant street art is pure "Loud & Lux" gold.
The "I Do" Vibe Check: Tbilisi Edition
The Logistics
- Speed: Married within hours of landing.
- Transport: Private hotel-to-courthouse transfers included via Shu Weddings.
- Status Win: Honeymoon Suite + Champagne + Cake (Thanks, Hilton Gold!).
The Culture
- Food: World-class wine and cheesy bread for every meal.
- People: Incredibly welcoming and efficient.
- Vibe: Ancient history meets modern underground cool.
Why We’d Do It Again
Eloping in Tbilisi was the most "us" thing we’ve ever done. It was fast, it was loud, it was beautiful, and it was entirely on our terms. We skipped the boring traditions and went straight to the heart of what matters: the adventure.
If you’re looking for a sign to ditch the 200-person guest list and fly into the Caucasus Mountains instead, this is it.
Talk soon (and probably loudly),
