The Tour Recovery: 6 Days in Agadir

May 21, 2026

When the final curtain falls and the gear is packed, the "Loud" life needs a serious "Silent Lux" antidote. John had been on the road for months, and by the end, he was running on fumes. He booked us a 6-day escape through British Airways Tours to Agadir, Morocco, the perfect spot to swap the tour bus for a balcony view.

The Journey: Gatwick to the Atlantic

  • The Night Before: I'm always preaching on points and here's where you make them pay off. We used some Hilton points to book a night at the Hilton Gatwick so we could literally walk to the South Terminal to catch our 8AM flight. Forget getting up at 3AM and paying premium for an Uber to the airport. We woke up rested and enjoyed the Aspire Lounge stress free.
  • Booking Hack: By booking through BA Holidays, we were able to pay for the trip in instalments making the spend much more manageable.
  • The Points Hack: Booking the Hilton through BA gave us a points overload. We got Hilton nights credited towards our status and Avios points for both the Hilton stay and for flying British Airways.
  • The Route: We flew direct from Gatwick. It’s a smooth 4-hour hop, but it feels like landing on a different planet.
  • The Arrival: No visas are needed for the EU/Canadian crew to visit, which makes the "No Stress" vibe start the second you land.
  • The Oasis: We stayed at the Hilton Resort, about 45 minutes from the airport. It’s a total sanctuary; clean, safe, and exactly the kind of "Lux" escape John needed to finally decompress.

The Taxi Hustle: Licensed or Bust

Agadir is easy to navigate, but you have to play the "Life on the Road" game correctly.

  • The Rule: Taxis are everywhere, but only use licensed drivers.
  • The Strategy: Either make sure they turn the meter on or, better yet, agree on the total cost before you put your bags in the trunk. It saves the "Loud" negotiation later.

The Currency Play: Cash is King

  • The Money: While the high-end spots and the Hilton will take your card, Local Currency (Dirhams) is king.
  • The Tip: ATMs are available, but always keep a stash of cash on you for the markets and small shops. They prefer the paper over the plastic every time.

The Experience: Souks, Surfs, and Camels

Agadir is famous for its miles-long sandy beach, and we made sure to embrace all of it.

  • The Atlantic Dip: The water is stunning, but remember, this is the Atlantic. It’s chilly. It’s perfect for a quick, wake-up dip, but you’ll want that Hilton robe ready when you get out.
  • Surf & Sand: Agadir is legendary for its breaks and surf shops and lessons are available everywhere and can be booked for as little as $50 including the board.
  • We hired a local guide on the beach for camel ride into town. It was a fun experience but be ready to be a little uncomfortable. Also, never accept the first price. The locals expect you to negotiate so never accept the first quote.
  • The Souks: You have to hit the local Souks. It’s a sensory overload of spices, rugs, and leather. Barter hard, stay friendly, and look for those "Silent Lux" treasures to take home.
  • The "Missed" List: We didn't have enough time this trip, but Agadir is a goldmine for Golf and Spas. You can find 18-hole championship courses like Golf du Soleil or Tazegzout for around 60-80 Euros, and luxury Hammam treatments are everywhere at incredible prices. It’s "Lux" quality for a "Low" budget.

The Feast: High-End vs. Street Soul

Agadir is a seafood haven where the Atlantic is practically on your plate. We balanced the "Lux" evenings with some serious "Life on the Road" local eats.

The "Lux" List: Fine Dining & Views

  • Pure Passion (Agadir Marina): This is the crown jewel of the marina. It’s elegant, romantic, and the service is world-class. Go for the Turbot with creamy shrimp sauce or the fresh oysters. Pro-Tip: Book a window seat for sunset. the view of the boats is the ultimate "Lux" backdrop.
  • Le Mauresque: For refined Moroccan cuisine in a chic setting. Their lamb tagine with prunes and traditional pastilla (savory-sweet pie) are legendary. It’s where the tradition meets high-end polish.
  • Restaurant Le Quai: Located in the marina with a trendy, black-and-white vibe. It specializes in Mediterranean seafood and is the perfect spot for a sophisticated dinner after a day on the beach.
  • Le Jardin d'Eau: Hands down the best meal we had in Agadir. The lobster was next level and very affordable and the lamb shank was to die for. The service was fantastic as was the overall vibe.

The "Low" List: Budget & Street Grit

  • The Port Stalls (Port de Pêche): This is the ultimate "Life on the Road" move. Head to the small, makeshift stalls inside the fishing port. You pick your fresh catch (sardines, squid, or prawns) and they grill it on the spot. A massive plate of fish, salad, and bread will set you back about 50-70 MAD (under £6). It’s raw, it’s loud, and it’s the best fish you’ll ever have.
  • Talborjt Neighborhood: Skip the tourist corniche and head here for "worker menus." You can find a full Harira soup, Tagine, and Mint Tea combo for about 40-50 MAD.
  • Souk El Had Snacks: While you’re bartering for rugs, grab some Msemen (Moroccan pancakes) or Sfenj (doughnuts) for just a few dirhams. It’s the fuel you need to keep the "Hustle" alive.

Survival 101: The "Balcony Bar" Strategy

Morocco is a dream, but it has some specific "Road Rules" you need to follow.

  • The Alcohol Hack: Alcohol is available in the resorts, but it is very expensive. We pulled a pro-move and grabbed our favourites at Duty Free in Gatwick. We spent the evenings making our own drinks to enjoy on the balcony while watching the sun disappear.
  • The Water Rule: Bottled water at all times. Do not even think about tap water.
  • The Ice Trap: Apart from the resort, avoid ice in your drinks. It’s rarely made from filtered water, and nothing ruins a "Recovery" trip faster than a local stomach bug.

The Takeaway

Agadir was the "2 Turntables" intermission we both needed. It’s where the grit of the souks meets the 5-star polish of the Hilton. Whether you’re falling off a surfboard or sipping a duty-free tequila on your balcony, Morocco is the ultimate place to find your rhythm again after the tour ends.

Talk soon (and probably loudly),
